A Grove of Native Irish Trees – GLAS 2016-17
Objective:
To promote the planting of Native Irish Trees in order to enhance the natural Irish landscape and improve the habitats for plants and animals in our countryside.
Requirements:
- Native Irish Trees must be planted in a single location on the farm.
- The grove must be at least 0.05 hectares (250 trees) and not larger than 0.09 hectare (450 trees).
- All trees will need to be planted in rows that are 2 metres apart and with 1 metre between each tree within each row.
- All trees need to be native species from native seeds and the grove must include at least two different species.
- All our trees will include Irish Provenance Declaration forms as required by the GLAS scheme.
- Each grove will need to be fenced in order to protect it from livestock. The grove must also be kept clean of competing vegetation.
Below are the four types of trees to choose from White Birch, Mountain Ash, Oak and Alder.
