GLAS Scheme – New Hedgerows
Objective
To grow new hedgerows on Irish farms that will enrich the landscape, increase biodiversity and will assist in the protection of water quality.
Requirements
- New hedgerows must be at least 10m in length and the maximum is 200m
- Plants must be positioned a distance of 6 plants per metre in a double row.
- The following varieties are recommended: Whitethorn, Blackthorn, Holly
- All hedgerows must be protected from livestock, regularly maintained e.g. trimmed as needed and kept clean from competing vegetation.
- Failed plants must be replaced in the next planting season after the initial planting season.
- We will supply all relevant paperwork and passport numbers as required by the GLAS scheme.
