Ilex meserveae ‘Heckenfee’ is a cultivar of the Meserve holly, a hybrid between Ilex aquifolium (English holly) and Ilex rugosa (Japanese holly). It is often known as the ‘Blue Holly’. This evergreen shrub is valued for its attractive glossy, dark green leaves, which are spiny like those of the English holly. ‘Heckenfee’ is a popular choice for hedges and landscaping due to its dense growth habit and ornamental features. Bunches of large red berries will be produced as long as there is a male holly somewhere nearby.
