Taxus Baccata

Taxus baccata, commonly known as the Yew, is an iconic evergreen tree native to Europe, North Africa, and Southwest Asia. With a history stretching back centuries, it is a symbol of endurance and longevity. The tree’s dark green, needle-like leaves and bright red berries (which are toxic) make it easily recognizable. Kept trimmed, it makes a good dense evergreen hedge. Its wood has been used historically for crafting longbows, adding to its storied past. Renowned for its hardiness and ability to thrive in various conditions, the Taxus baccata remains a popular choice in gardens, parks, and landscapes for its aesthetic appeal and cultural significance. Note: The seeds, berries, leaves and bark are highly poisonous and can cause fatal poisoning of humans and livestock.

Approx. Height and spread: 10 to 20 meters – or as required for hedge.
Position: Full sun partial shade
Soil Ph: Slightly acid
Moisture: well-drained soil
Hardiness: Hardy
