Cordyline Australis
Cordyline australis, commonly known as the Cabbage Tree or Torbay Palm, is an iconic plant native to New Zealand. This striking evergreen tree features a single trunk topped with a dense cluster of long, sword-shaped leaves that can reach up to 1 meter) in length, creating a dramatic and tropical appearance.
In late spring to early summer, a more mature specimen can produce fragrant, creamy white flowers that form in large, branched clusters. These flowers are followed by small, round berries that ripen to a deep blue or purple colour.
Popular in gardens and landscapes for its architectural presence, the Cordyline australis is relatively easy to grow, tolerating a range of conditions from full sun to partial shade. It is also quite hardy, and able to withstand mild frosts and coastal winds. Whether used as a focal point in a garden bed, a container plant on a patio, or as part of a tropical-themed landscape, this plant adds a touch of exotic elegance to any setting.
