Hydrangea macrophylla Purple

Hydrangea macrophylla Purple is a captivating flowering shrub known for its stunning, large mophead blooms that range in colour from vivid purple to pink, depending on the soil pH*. This deciduous shrub typically grows to a height of 1 to 1.5 meters, with a similar spread, making it ideal for borders, hedges, or as a standalone specimen plant. Its glossy, dark green leaves provide an attractive backdrop to the showy blooms, which appear in summer and often continue into early autumn. Hydrangea macrophylla thrives in partially shaded areas with moist, well-drained soil and is a favourite choice for adding a splash of vibrant colour to garden landscapes. Hortensia – mophead variety.

* When grown on neutral or alkaline soil, the flowers will predominantly be pink,. If you want to make sure that your hydrangea has purple-toned flowers, you will need to make sure your pH does not creep above 6.5. To lower the pH of neutral soil, you can treat it annually with a hydrangea flower colourant containing aluminium salts.
