Colchicum The Giant

Colchicum ‘The Giant’ is a striking autumn-flowering bulb known for its large, goblet-shaped, lilac-pink flowers that bloom from September to October. The common names “meadow saffron” and “naked lady” are often applied to the entire species. The blooms, which can reach up to 15 cm in diameter, appear on naked stems, with the foliage emerging in the spring. The leaves are broad, green, and slightly glossy, dying back by early summer. This plant is often grown for its ability to provide late-season colour in gardens, particularly in rock gardens, borders, or naturalized areas. ‘The Giant’ thrives in well-drained soil and prefers full sun to partial shade.
