Tulip Toronto 300-500
Tulip Toronto is a ‘Gregii’ type tulip, a specific classification of tulips – after the renowned Dutch horticulturist Jan de Graaff. This lovely variety has a vibrant and striking colouration, exhibiting shades of red, orange, and salmon. The flowers are almost lily-like in form and will produce two to three blooms per stem. The leaves of Gregii tulips are often mottled or striped with maroon or brown markings, giving them an ornamental quality even when not in bloom.
These tulips are typically smaller in size compared to some of the more traditional tulip varieties, however, their compact stature makes them suitable for various garden settings, including borders, rock gardens, and containers. Due to their shorter stature, they are less likely to be bent or damaged by wind, adding to their durability.
Gregii tulips usually have a slightly shorter flowering period compared to other tulip types, but their charming appearance and unique foliage more than make up for their slightly briefer bloom time. They tend to flower early in the spring, adding a burst of colour and visual interest to gardens after the winter months.
Height: 20-30cm approx. Plant 15cm apart in a sunny position. Flowers in April.
