Acidanthera

Acidanthera, also known as the Peacock Orchid or Gladiolus callianthus, is a perennial bulbous plant that belongs to the Iris family (Iridaceae). Native to South Africa, Acidanthera is prized for its fragrant and elegant white flowers with distinctive purple throats. The blooms are star-shaped and arranged in a spike-like cluster atop slender, arching stems.

This plant typically reaches a height of 60 to 90 cm and blooms in late summer to early autumn, adding a touch of grace and beauty to gardens. Acidanthera bulbs are planted in spring, and they prefer well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Despite its common name, Acidanthera is not a true orchid but is often compared to them due to its exquisite orchid-like appearance. The delicate fragrance of the flowers makes Acidanthera a popular choice for gardens and cut flower arrangements alike.
