This Scots pine tree’s genetic lineage has been traced back to the original Scots Pine of Ireland before their decline around 2000 years ago. Protected from man and climate change in the landscape of The Burren in Co. Clare, a small population has survived from before the Ice Age to this day. The Scots Pine is an evergreen tree with the upper trunk and branches orange-brown, developing an irregular outline with maturity. Twisted grey-green needles. Produces cones 5cm in length.
