Zelkova Serrata
Zelkova serrata, commonly known as the Japanese Zelkova or Sawleaf Zelkova, is a graceful, deciduous tree known for its elegant vase-like shape and attractive bark. Native to Japan, Korea, and China, this tree is often used in landscaping for its beautiful foliage and ability to adapt to various soil conditions.
The leaves of Zelkova serrata are serrated, with a glossy dark green colour in the spring and summer, turning to shades of yellow, orange, or red in autumn. The bark is a standout feature, exfoliating to reveal mottled patches of orange, grey, and brown, creating a striking visual appeal, especially in winter.
It typically grows to a height of more than 12 meters with a spread wider than 8 meters. The tree prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. Its tolerance to urban conditions, resistance to pests and diseases, and its aesthetic qualities make it a popular choice for parks, streets, and large gardens.
