Carex testacea ‘Prairie Fire’ also known as the Orange New Zealand Sedge is a striking ornamental grass known for its fiery orange-bronze-tipped foliage. The foliage turns a darker orange in the autumn with brown flower spikes appearing in the summer. This evergreen sedge forms neat clumps of arching leaves, adding an attractive texture and colour contrast to gardens. It typically grows in a graceful fountain-like shape, reaching about 30-50 cm in height. ‘Prairie Fire’ is a low-maintenance plant that thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. It’s a versatile choice for borders, rock gardens, and containers, providing year-round interest with its vibrant hues.
