Amelanchier alnifolia ‘Saskatoon’, also known as the Pacific serviceberry, the western serviceberry, alder-leaf shadbush, dwarf shadbush or western juneberry. The plant itself is very bushy, and can be grown as a large shrub or small tree. White flowers in late spring, before the berries themselves come out. In the autumn, the leaves turn a lovely orange-red colour. The fruit look much like blueberries, though they are more closely related to the apple family, with a sweet, nutty almond flavour. They are also high in fibrer, protein and antioxidants. Berries ripen in late June or early July. Service Berry Amelanchier alnifolia Saskatoon
